Each February, volunteers from around the world meet together at the Hub in South Africa. These are individuals, families, and couples who God has called to serve the most vulnerable with Hands at Work in Africa. In mid-February this year, a new group of volunteers traveled to South Africa to begin or continue their journeys with Hands at Work together. As an intake of seven, they have begun their orientation – a 5-week period of learning about Hands at Work, experiencing personal growth, and becoming a part of the Hands at Work family. They are currently halfway through their orientation period, and spent last weekend staying in one of the most vulnerable communities in Swaziland.
This year, two volunteers from New South Wales, Australia, are a part of this intake. Jimmy Kerr (19) and Kara McLaughlin (30) have committed to serving with Hands at Work in Africa for one year.
Pray for the intake as they learn more and dig deeper into Hands at Work. Pray for teachable hearts and strong relationships to continue to build between the intake members.
Pray Jimmy and Kara will have open hearts and be willing to serve in whatever capacity needed.
Pray they will be present in every situation, whether in the office, in community, and in building relationships with others, and that they would not feel homesick being so far away.
Pray they will meet children and Care Workers who deeply impact and encourage them to continue serving however they can.
Over the next couple of months, each volunteer will be placed in a role where they will serve alongside international and African volunteers. Pray God will equip Kara and Jimmy with wisdom and patience as they learn and delve into these roles.
Pray for Jimmy and Kara’s families to have continued peace, comfort, and strength from our Heavenly Father.
Over the course of the year, pray God will continue to provide Jimmy and Kara with everything they need. Pray for their faith to deepen and for their hearts to trust Him for strength, courage, and grace.
