The Fourth Sunday

On Sundays, we pause to anticipate the coming of Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

‘Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.’ – Matthew 20:18-19

Day 22 - Life Centres

‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’ – John 10:10

Hands at Work dreams of transforming Care Points in each community across Africa into Life Centres. While this has looked vastly different over the past year due to the pandemic, the vision remains the same: to create a safe place where the most vulnerable can come, knowing that they are loved, accepted and cared for. Pray for the Care Workers and the local Hands at Work teams to find unique ways of creating a safe space of hope and refuge.

The Covid-19 restrictions have changed the way our children are able to gather and play at our Life Centres across Africa. It’s been encouraging to see how Care Workers have found creative ways to connect and play with the children despite the restrictions.

Day 21 - Basic Healthcare and Security

The Lord sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health. – Psalm 41:3

For the most vulnerable living in the poorest of the poor communities, access to sufficient medical care is challenging. A lack of local clinics equipped with the necessary treatments, combined with a lack of finances, makes accessing much- needed healthcare difficult. Pray for the health of our children and their families. Pray that clinics will have grace and compassion when families are unable to afford treatment. Pray for Hands at Work to have wisdom in knowing how to identify and address healthcare needs amongst the most vulnerable.

Day 20 - Maranatha Workshops

Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ – John 14:6

We have reached halfway through 40 Days of Prayer. We encourage you to recommit yourself to the remainder of the 40 Days.

Due to the pandemic, the way that Hands at Work has been able to facilitate Maranatha Workshops has looked different. Due to government restrictions and regulations, we have sought unique ways to share the ‘Jesus We Know’ whilst still complying with the rules. As we share about Jesus, pray that people will have open hearts to all that God wants to do in their lives. Ask God to bring healing and reconciliation to any brokenness and wounds that they carry.

Day 19 - Education

Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

For much of 2020, schools across Africa and around the world were closed due to the pandemic. This is a massive challenge in the Africa context, and many of our children will never be able to finish their education as a result. Please pray for Godly people in government positions to protect our children with relevant measures.

Day 17 - Food Insecurity

For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore, I command you, saying, ‘you shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land. – Deuteronomy 15:11

Food security remains a serious issue in the most vulnerable communities across Africa, an issue that Hands at Work has seen sharply worsen due to the pandemic. An increase in food prices, combined with past seasons of drought, has resulted in many families struggling to survive. As Hands at Work ensures that the most vulnerable children and those who care for them have secure access to food, pray that God will provide all the resources needed.

Hands at Work has seen sharply worsen due to the pandemic. An increase in food prices, combined with past seasons of drought, has resulted in many families struggling to survive. Our goal is to ensure that the most vulnerable children and those who care for them have secure access to food through the children’s daily meals at the Care Point, Primary Caregiver gardens and food relief in times of crisis.
