Day 28 - Youth Camps

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. – Galatians 5:13

One of the ways that Hands at Work invests into the lives of our youth is through youth camps. As many of

our youth come from challenging circumstances and are regularly exposed to negative lifestyles, these camps are safe places to share the ‘Jesus We Know’ and what it means to make healthy life choices. While these camps have looked different in 2020 and going forward, due to the pandemic, pray for our youth to experience the love of Christ and pray that this revelation will impact the way that they serve at their Care Points. Pray that they will have a Godly influence on their friends and in their surrounding community.

Day 27 - Youth Leaders

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

While some of our most vulnerable youth have found purpose in increasing their involvement at our Care Points by helping prepare and serve food or caring for younger children, others struggle with the constant draw surrounding them to unhealthy lifestyles and relationships. Hands at Work longs to invest in our youth and see them grow into healthy adults who love Jesus and desire to bring hope to their community. Pray for the senior leaders who are role models to these young adults, and pray that their lives speak louder than their words.

Nadin (front right in pink) grew up in the community of Toyota in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Having seen and experienced the Care Workers’ investment into her life over the years, she wanted to give back to others in her community.

Today Nadin is a member of the dedicated team of Care Workers caring for children in Toyota.

Day 26 - Women and Girls

Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow! – Isaiah 1:17

The most vulnerable communities in Africa are hard places to be a girl. Frequently, women and girls are looked down upon, taken advantage of, or thought of as ‘less than’. Seeing their worth, Hands at Work empowers our women and girls to see the value and importance that they have, not only in their own families and community but in the Kingdom of Heaven. Pray for protection over their hearts and minds and for their physical health.

"As the crisis affecting young girls deepens, it actually creates an opportunity for action. With threats like human trafficking worse than they’ve been in decades, the problem can no longer be easily ignored, and it is demanding the attention of local stakeholders."

Day 25 - Hands at Work Local Teams

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. - 2 Corinthians 13:11

In each region, Hands at Work has local frontline teams, committed to serving and advocating on behalf of the Care Workers and children in their surrounding area. Each volunteer has chosen to sacrificially serve and to speak against aspects of their culture in order to live out the Kingdom culture. Pray for a continued spirit of unity, perseverance and courage as they serve.

“One thing that has become even more clear to me is the need to be praying not only for each other in Africa but also for our churches and partners around the world. Prayer not only deepens our relationship with God but also our relationships with others. As we come together in prayer, we become stronger in serving the children.” – Michael Mwila, African Leader (Zambia)

Day 24 - New African Leaders

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

A key emphasis for Hands at Work has been identifying and then growing African leaders who desire to sacrificially give of themselves to help serve the most vulnerable. Ask God to raise up more leaders with hearts of grace and compassion, who long to be a part of sharing the love and hope of Christ.

Day 23 - Existing African Leaders

Then the Lord said to him, ‘Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.’ - Exodus 4: 11-12

Hands at Work is committed to developing African leaders who love God and long to speak as a voice for the voiceless in the most vulnerable communities across Africa. Pray for our African leaders as they lead in challenging circumstances. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give each leader a continually deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the most vulnerable, and of the role that they can play in bringing hope.

Ruth is a member of one of the local Hands at Work teams in Zambia and grew up in Chibote Community herself. Starting as a Care Worker in Chibote in 2011, Ruth grew into her role as an African Leader with Hands at Work. She has a deep understanding of the challenges faced in communities like Chibote and represents the men and woman that make up 13 Hands at Work teams across Africa, who are committed to caring for the most vulnerable in over 60 communities.
